Dear friend,
We warmly welcome you to our website and trust that you find it a blessing. The site tells something of the work and ministry of Sovereign Grace Christian Church in Canterbury, CT. We are a Puritan, Reformed and Evangelical fellowship. Our house of worship is one of the oldest in Connecticut having been established by ardent and devout Puritan and Reformed men and women in 1770. The old church has witnessed glorious seasons of revival during the Second Great Awakening. Among its early pastors were men eminently used by God in the conversion of souls. Many years ago it pleased the Lord to cause our people to “Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein,” ~ Jeremiah 6:16. The faith which was once delivered unto the saints, was revived among us. It is our earnest prayer that as a people we will be found among those who worship our great God and Saviour in Spirit and in truth, and that we will never be ashamed of the gospel which is the power of God unto salvation.
The principle fundamental pillars of the Church are its seeking to engage in Biblical worship, and prayer as the driving force of all we attempt to do. Our preaching and Bible studies are based upon historic Reformed Theology as set forth in Scripture and in the various Reformed Creeds, especially that of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. In all of our ministries there is an expressed need of the Holy Spirit to lead, direct and bless every area of worship, prayer and service. Further, we believe in the observance of the Lord’s Day, in keeping with the Biblical and Historic Protestant faith. We believe also in baptism by immersion. Our faith is perhaps best summarized in the great battle cry of the Protestant Reformation:

We seek your earnest prayers that in all things we will remain faithful and that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit will rest upon this little congregation in such a way that it will be evident that, “This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?” Mark 12:11
We have turned our backs upon the worldly contemporary “worship” styles, and the "easy believism " that has infected and perverted so much of Christendom today. We are content to be found in the way of our fathers and “earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude 3.
Brethren, Pray for us, and if you feel led by the Lord, --- come, and join with us in our labors here in this corner of the Lord’s vineyard. “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Luke 10:2
